Therapy for Depression in State College, PA
Services available virtually throughout Pennsylvania and Washington
Healing from depression doesn’t happen all at once. It looks like slowly waking up with a little more energy, feeling moments of peace you didn’t have before, and realizing you can breathe without the constant heaviness. It’s beginning to care again — about yourself, your relationships, your life — in ways that feel real and steady.
How do you know if you have depression?
💭 Emotional Pain
You feel empty no matter what you do.
It’s like the light inside you went out.
You’re tired of pretending you’re okay.
You want to care, but you can’t.
You miss the version of yourself who could feel joy.
⚡ Physical and Energy Changes
You feel so exhausted all the time, even when you sleep.
Just getting out of bed feels like climbing a mountain.
Your body feels heavy — everything takes effort.
You can’t focus on anything, your mind is foggy.
Your appetite and sleep are all over the place.
You feel like you’re dragging yourself through the day.
🧠 Inner Critic and Self-Image
You keep telling yourself you should be able to handle this.
You feel guilty for struggling.
You worry you’re a burden to the people you love.
You don’t recognize who you are anymore.
That inner critic keeps whispering that you’re not enough, that you should be stronger.
You’re tired of fighting with that voice.
💔 Relationships and Isolation
You found yourself pulling away from others
You don’t want to talk to anyone, but you also hate being alone.
You can’t connect with your friends or partner.
People try to cheer you up, but it just makes you feel worse.
You feel like no one really understands yourself.
You wish someone could be there for you, but you are afraid to let anyone in.
🌧️ Loss of Meaning or Purpose
Things that used to make you happy don’t matter anymore.
Even small tasks feel meaningless and overwhelming.
It’s like you’re here, but not really here.
You go through the motions, but your sense of meaning and vitality feels far away.
⏳ Daily Struggles
You keep canceling plans because you just don’t have the emotional or energy band-witch to deal with them.
You procrastinate until everything piles up and then feel worse.
You want to move forward, but something inside keeps pulling you down. It can feel like quicksand — the harder you try, the deeper you sink.
Healing from Depression at the Roots
Depression isn’t just about sadness — it’s often a signal from the parts of you that have carried pain for far too long.
Maybe a part of you learned to shut down so you wouldn’t feel hurt.
Maybe another part keeps pushing you to stay strong — even when you’re exhausted.
In therapy, you’ll gently begin to understand where these patterns come from — not to blame or fix them, but to finally listen to what pain they have been carrying, and helping them find relief.
As those parts start to feel seen and safe, as we gradually release their burden, the heaviness begins to lift.
You start to feel:
More ease and steadiness in your body
Softer toward yourself instead of critical
More connected — to yourself, others and to life
A quiet sense of peace that doesn’t feel forced
Motivated to move through life again with zest and excitement
Free from the shame, fear, or loneliness those parts have carried for years
This work isn’t about “getting rid” of depression.
It’s about helping you reconnect with the part of you that’s always been whole — the part that knows how to heal, rest, and feel alive again.
If you’re ready to start healing the root of your depression, you don’t have to do it alone.
Together, we’ll walk gently toward the pain, so you can finally set it free — and come home to yourself.

🌻A Different Way of Healing: Integrative, Body-based, Somatic Therapy for Depression
Why Insight Alone Doesn’t Bring Relief
You might already understand yourself — the childhood patterns, the perfectionism, the people-pleasing — yet still feel stuck in the same emptiness.
That’s because depression doesn’t begin in the mind alone. It lives in the body — in the muscles that stay tense, the breath that never quite deepens, and the parts of you that learned long ago it wasn’t safe to feel or need too much.
Insight can help you understand your pain. But true healing happens when your whole system — mind, body, and the parts within you — begin to feel safe enough to let go.
My Approach: Healing the Depression from Inside Out
I specialize in somatic therapy for depression, helping you reconnect with the parts of yourself that went quiet and numb just to survive.
Together, we’ll help those parts feel understood, supported, and ready to live again.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) — We’ll gently meet the parts that carry exhaustion, shame, and self-criticism — and the deeper part underneath that still carries sadness or loneliness. As they feel seen and safe, their heaviness begins to soften.
Somatic Therapy — You’ll learn to notice what your body has been holding — the tension, the collapse, the numbness — and begin to rebuild a felt sense of safety, rest, and vitality.
EMDR & Trauma Reprocessing (when appropriate) — To help your nervous system release the frozen survival energy behind chronic despair or helplessness.
Mindfulness & EFT Tools — To bring steadiness and compassion into daily life — practical ways to ground yourself, care for your emotions, and create moments of ease again.
Together, we go beyond talking about your story — so you can finally begin to feel different from the inside out
I get it!
I know how it feels when getting out of bed seems impossible.
When you wake up and don’t want to talk to anyone, don’t want to do anything, and everything feels heavy or meaningless.
When you feel numb, disconnected, or quietly sad — and you wonder if it will always be like this.
I’ve been in that place myself — the deep, painful kind of depression that makes it hard to care or hope.
And I want you to know: you’re not broken, and I’m here for you.
Healing is possible.
It doesn’t happen overnight, but it begins when someone meets you right where you are — with care, understanding, acceptance, and compassion.
That’s how I work.
When we begin therapy together, I’ll meet you gently in that space, at your pace.
We’ll make sense of what’s happening inside, help your system find rest, and take small steps toward living life again.
You will no longer feel alone anymore. You will feel seen, heard, and understood. I’ll walk with you — slowly and compassionately — until you gradually feel steady, connected, hopeful again. And we will celebrate that together!

🌱 What to Expect
Your first steps toward healing — gently, steadily, and at your own pace.
1️⃣ Free Connection Call
Start with a 15-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit.
You can share what’s been coming up, ask questions, and get a sense of what working together might feel like — no pressure, just conversation.
2️⃣ Building Safety & Foundation
In our first few sessions, we focus on safety — both emotional and physical.
You don’t need to tell your whole story at once. We’ll move slowly, helping your nervous system begin to settle and building trust in the process.
You’ll start learning simple tools to ground yourself and reconnect with your body’s signals — so therapy feels safe, not overwhelming.
3️⃣ Deeper Healing Through IFS & Somatic Work
Once your system feels steadier, we’ll gently explore the parts of you that carry worry, guilt, or self-criticism.
Using Internal Family Systems (IFS therapy), somatic therapy, and trauma-informed methods, we’ll help those parts release old burdens and discover what they truly need.
When appropriate, we may integrate EMDR to reprocess painful memories stored in the body.
4️⃣ Integration: Bringing Healing Into Daily Life
Healing is about more than what happens in session — it’s about how you begin to live and relate differently.
We’ll practice new ways of setting boundaries, calming your body, and trusting your own inner wisdom.
You’ll notice small but meaningful shifts: more calm, clearer choices, deeper connection.
5️⃣ Continuing or Transitioning Forward
Some clients continue meeting regularly; others space sessions further apart as they integrate what they’ve learned.
When it feels right, we’ll discuss transitioning out of therapy with clarity and intention — so you leave feeling supported and empowered.
